Graduate School, What Is It?
7 08 2008Graduate school, what is it? This is a school, which presents advanced degrees, masters and doctoral ones; sometimes it is also called “grad school”. The main requirement of enrolling graduate school is as follows – applicants should already possess bachelor’s degree (undergraduate one). The educational process in the graduate school presupposes making own research and writing thesis and dissertations. The term of graduate school in considered to be North American. It is not referred only to the medical school as it is said to be.
Students who attend graduate schools are called graduated students, or if speaking about the norms of British English, they are called postgraduate students, or postgrads in colloquial speech.
The degrees earned at such schools are as follows: master’s degrees, doctoral degrees, and professional degrees.
In order to be admitted into the graduate school for master’s degree receiving, one has to have a bachelor’s degree in the same field, and a high graduate as B+ (at least). If the applicant is from country where English language is not a native one, such applicants have to pass TOEFEL, which stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. In order to be admitted into the graduate school to receive a doctoral degree one has to have a master’s degree in the same field.
